A segment is a saved group of contacts you can message together. There are two kinds — Active segments that update themselves, and Static segments that stay fixed. Here's the difference and when to use each.
1
Where segments live
Open Contacts and switch to the Segments tab. Each segment shows its name, the conditions that define it, and how many contacts it currently holds. You reuse these groups when sending campaigns instead of picking contacts one by one.
2
Active segments update themselves
An Active segment is defined by conditions and stays live — as contacts are added or their details change, anyone who matches joins automatically and anyone who stops matching drops out. It's ideal for recurring campaigns, such as "customers who placed an order". Active segments are a Pro feature. See Create an Active segment.
3
Static segments are a fixed snapshot
A Static segment is a frozen list. You build it once — from a CSV upload or a one-time filter of your contacts — and its membership never changes on its own. It's best for one-off sends to a specific group, such as webinar attendees or event RSVPs. See Create a Static segment.

Which one should you pick?
Choose Active when you want the group to keep itself up to date for ongoing use. Choose Static when you need a fixed list captured at a moment in time. Both are created from the same New Segment button — you simply pick the type on the first screen.
